What a fabulous day it was at Greggs' Food Zone - home to many a great new sandwich creation over the years and the 201 North East Semi Final of the Sandwich Designer of the Year was no exception.

The six categories saw dozens of delicious designer sarnies and the winners of each category were:

Matthew Dignan of The Hare & Hounds with Cuban Tastic Pork Bagel

Highly Commended in this category was Kate Riley with 'Kraut Monsieur'

But the winner, and going through to the final was Ben Laws of Java with Oak Roast Smoked Salmon Bagel

Emily Edmonds of Greggs with Thai Coconut, Chilli and Lime Crispy Chicken and Avocado Delight

Emily Edmonds of Greggs with Sweet and Smokey Pulled Chicken with Crunchy Apple Slaw

Melissa Walmsley was Highly Commended with 'The Italian Job'

But the winner and going throuhg to the final was Kate Riley of Bait Sandwiches with Falafel Fattoush

Highly Commended was Emily Edmonds of Greggs with Asian Infused Soy Chilli and Honey Tuna Stuffed Seeded Baguette

But the winner and through to the final was Ben Laws of Java with Spiced ASIAN Tuna Roll
