REPORTING TIMES: The competition is set to start promptly at 10.30am. All competitors must be at the venue by 10.00am LATEST. On arrival please report to reception and ask for Caron Parry.

PARKING: Please be aware that parking on site is limited.

RUNNING ORDER: The running order for the competition will be as follows:

  • 10.30am – New York Bakery Cheese Bagel Category
  • 11.00 am – Sam Browne Foods Cooked Chicken and Duck Category
  • 11.30am – Pan’artisan Focaccia Romana Category
  • 12.00pm – Norseland Mexicana, Applewood and Jarlsberg Cheese Category
  • 12.30pm – Harvey & Brockless Finest Pesto and Green Kraut Relish Category
  • 1.00pm – H. Smith Food Group plc Tuna Category

COMPETITION RULES: Contestants in each category will be allocated a work station and asked to make their sandwich at the appropriate starting time. You will have 30 minutes to prepare and assemble your creation and will need to make one for presentation purposes and one for tasting. The judges will then talk to each contestant at their work station and taste their sandwich. Please be aware that timings must be adhered to and any sandwiches not ready on time will be excluded from judging..

WHAT TO BRING: Please ensure you bring with you enough ingredients to make your sandwich (one for presentation and one for tasting) together with all the utensils, presentation plates and boards etc that you will need. The sponsors products will be available at the venue for your use.

SANDWICH ASSEMBLY: A working area will be provided for your use but please bring boards and other materials you need, including a suitable knife to cut up the sandwich, a presentation plate and chopping board for sampling.

PRESENTATION: The presentation sandwich should be presented on a suitable plate or board.

PHOTOGRAPHY: Each contestant will be photographed with their prepared sandwich before presenting to the judges.

RESULTS: We will announce the winners of each of the six categories at the end of the heat. The winner of each category will then attend the final at the Lancaster Hotel, London, on Thursday 11th May. Category winners will also receive a certificate and 2 tickets to the awards dinner at The Lancaster Hotel where the winner of each category and the overall winner of the British Sandwich Designer of the Year 2017 will be announced. The overall winner will also receive a cheque for £500.

  • PLEASE BRING WITH YOU EVERYTHING YOU WILL NEED ON THE DAY - ALL INGREDIENTS AND UTENSILS, CHOPPING BOARD, KNIFE AND PRESENTATION PLATE ETC.
  • THE SPONSORS PRODUCTS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE VENUE FOR YOUR USE.
  • WHEREVER POSSIBLE ALL OTHER INGREDIENTS SHOULE BE PREPARED BEFOREHAND AS THERE IS VERY LIMITED SPACE FOR PREPARATION AND STORAGE.
  • EQUIPMENT: A PANINI GRILL AND MICROWAVE WILL BE PROVIDED. ANY OTHER EQUIPMENT WILL NEED TO BE BROUGHT WITH YOU.
  • PLEASE WEAR SUITABLE CLOTHING FOR PREPARING FOOD. HAIR SHOULD BE EITHER TIED BACK OR COVERED.
