In the first stage, our judges select the best entries in each of the categories with the successful competitors being invited to take part in the regional heats, which take place at venues around the country during March 2020.

Entrants have been encouraged to enter the maximum two recipes in each category as the initial judging and heats are intensely competitive.

A plethora of sandwich types have been entered from the traditional sliced bread to focaccias and bao buns. This year, in recognition of the growing food-to-go market, the sandwich designer competition has been opened to include both sandwiches and food-to-go pots. The only stipulation is that the final presentation has to include the sponsor's ingredient, be commercially viable to make and state the market it is aimed at such as workplace, sandwich bar etc.
