START TIME:
10.30am – PLEASE ARRIVE NO LATER THAN 10.00AM

REPORTING TIMES:
The competition is set to start promptly at 10.30am. All competitors must be at the venue by 10.00am LATEST. On arrival please report to reception in the Students Union Building just off University Square. (see map).

PARKING:
On site parking is available at The Parkinson Building which is a short walk from the Students Union. (see map). PLEASE ALLOW PLENTY OF TIME FOR PARKING.

RUNNING ORDER:
The running order for the competition will be as follows:

  • 10.30am – Norseland Mexicana, Applewood and Jarlesberg Cheese Category
  • 11.00 pm – Harvey & Brockless Chipotle Relish Category
  • 11.30am - Universal Meats Steamed Diced Chicken Breast Category
  • 12.00pm – Geeta’s Smooth Premium Mango Chutney Category
  • 12.30pm – Sam Browne Foods Pulled Cooked Venison Category
  • 1.00pm – New York Bagel Company Bagel Sandwich Thin Category

COMPETITION RULES:
Contestants in each category will be asked to make their sandwich at the appropriate starting time and will have 30 minutes to prepare and assemble their creation. In each category all sandwiches will be presented to the judges simultaneously. Please be aware that any sandwiches not ready on time will be excluded from judging. Each category will be judged separately.

WHAT TO BRING:
Please ensure you bring with you enough ingredients to make your sandwich for each category (one for presentation and one for tasting) together with all the utensils, presentation plates and boards etc that you will need. The sponsors products will be available at the venue for your use.

SANDWICH ASSEMBLY:
A working area will be provided for your use but please bring boards and other materials you need, including a suitable knife to cut up the sandwich, a presentation plate and chopping board for sampling.

PRESENTATION:
Your sandwiches should be presented on a suitable plate or board. One sandwich will go to the judges for tasting and the second sandwich will be passed around an invited audience for tasting.

PHOTOGRAPHY:
We will have a photographer present. He will take a photograph of you with your prepared sandwich before you present to the judges.

RESULTS: We will announce the winners of the individual categories at the end of the heat. The winner of each category will then attend the final at the Lancaster London Hotel, London, on Thursday, May 12th . Category winners will receive a certificate and 2 tickets to the awards dinner at The Lancaster London Hotel where the winner of each category and the overall winner of the British Sandwich Designer of the Year 2016 will be announced. The overall winner will also receive a cheque for £500.

  • PLEASE BRING WITH YOU EVERYTHING YOU WILL NEED ON THE DAY - ALL INGREDIENTS AND UTENSILS, CHOPPING BOARD, KNIFE AND PRESENTATION PLATE ETC.
  • THE SPONSORS PRODUCTS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE VENUE FOR YOUR USE.
  • ALL OTHER INGREDIENTS SHOULE BE PREPARED BEFOREHAND WHEREVER POSSIBLE AS THERE IS VERY LIMITED SPACE FOR PREPARATION AND STORAGE.
  • PLEASE WEAR SUITABLE CLOTHING FOR PREPARING FOOD. HAIR SHOULD BE EITHER TIED BACK OR COVERED.
